About Soroptimist
Women at their best, working to help other women to be their best
Soroptimist was formed in 1921 in Oakland, California, at a time when women were not permitted to join service organizations. Our name, loosely translated from the Latin, means best for women. Today, we have over 25,000 members and supporters in countries across North America, Latin America and the Pacific Rim. We are one of five federations that make up Soroptimist International, which has clubs in more than 120 countries throughout the world.
Our Work and Impact

Our years of experience working with women and girls has taught us that education is the key to unlocking economic empowerment of the world’s women and girls. When women and girls are educated, they have opportunity, choice and power to make healthy decisions for themselves and their families.
Our Vision
Women and girls have the resources and opportunities to reach their full potential and live their dreams.
Our Mission
Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.
Testimonial
I first learned about Soroptimist International during my college days in the Philippines, when I was fortunate enough to receive one of their Academic Scholarships.
I've always admired the organization and its objectives and hoped to be a part of something similar. Last year (2023), my friend Sara invited me to a mixer, and little did I know that it was my chance to become a member of this amazing organization. I am thrilled to now be an active member of Soroptimist International of Camarillo and to serve on the Board of Directors for 2024-2025. Soroptimist's mission is to provide women and girls with access to education and training for economic empowerment is something I deeply believe in. As a former college educator, I strongly believe that education is the key to unlocking economic empowerment for women and girls worldwide. I am living proof that our club's support can make a lasting impact, and I am committed to paying it forward by helping empower women too. - Grace C.
